The Academy is situated approximately one mile from the world famous Ironbridge which was built in 1779 by Abraham Darby III, whom the Academy is named after. The Academy has and continues to maintain a very successful music tradition, which goes back many years and has ensured that the Academy has become one of the country's leading education establishment for musical opportunity for its students which has resulted in a high reputation within the youth musical world – locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally.
The Academy has four senior bands and an extensive range of junior bands, which build on the foundations of the senior bands and assist in the continued successes of the Academy.
